Product Description
Hypothetical reconstruction of a Kii class battleship into carrier, were it not cancelled at Washington in 1922, with a similar approach taken to Akagi and Kaga but with some slight improvements.
The ship's bow has been flared outwards, the armour belt removed and substituted by a thinner belt, and a steel flying off deck fit over the bow with two 20 cm twin turrets on the deck above; six of the original 14 cm secondary casemates have been retained along the outer sides of the hull, as opposed to the 20 cm casemates fitted a level down in Akagi and Kaga that notoriously proved to be wet, along with six twin 12 cm mounts as heavy AA defence and twenty smaller machine guns scattered across the ship; the funnels reverted to a shape similar to Akagi coming out of the starboard side, but keeping two separate smaller exhausts fitted close together, thus avoiding the long and troublesome trunking aft that Kaga was fitted with.
The size of the battleship, compared to the smaller Kaga, would have provided a platform on par with Akagi in terms of number of aircraft carried and air operations.
