Product Description
Background information: This is a HO scale model of Lehigh and New England wooden-side gondola. This version of the model depicts the car during the late 1950s when they were used in the Maintenance of way (MOW) trains. An example of this is in the attached pictures showing L&NE Gon 728 used as a crane boom car. This model is based on #728 as it has survived to present day as a part of the Tourist railroad, The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat. (CT Valley Railroad). I have also created a model of L&NE 728 during its tourist line that can be found on my stores page. The model is designed using reference photos, field measurements and original design drawings when available.
Prices are based on Shapeways pricing, but I am working out how much it would be for me to print these models at home. I will post an update when I have more information. Please note that the car is designed to be detailed with fine scale rivets and wooden board details. These may be lost on lower quality print options but I want to have a range of pricing for everyone.
Model Features:
This model includes riveted details on the underbody steel, simulated wooden floor boards, riveted side stakes and appropriate trucks. I designed this model to be the base body with as much detail as possible molded in. The wooden side boards would need to be added and can be created out of plastic card or strip wood for a more realistic look. The brake wheel has a small void under it to allow a scale chain to be added if wanted.
The body has been pre-tapped to accept a 2-56 screw to attach the trucks. there is also a molded in spot of a standard Kadee couple box to be glued in. Please note that there may need to be some filing done based on the print quality selected. The trucks have been sized to fit intermountain HO scale wheels. Other makes have also been tested. The pockets may need to be cleaned out or turned based on printing quality.
Please feel free to reach out if there are any questions or comments regarding the model.
