Metropolitan 1905 electric stock
Trailer coach (early version without centre doors)
The first electric multiple units ran on 1 January 1905 from Uxbridge to Baker Street. The first design had open access as ends of coaches which was not popular with passengers. These were replaced with enclosed entrances. Also having access only at ends increased time at stations so doors were added to centre of coach. All were modified from 1911 to 1918.
New stock was added with improvements, and lasted up till WW2,some motor units being converted into non motor all thirds. Final unis withdrawn in 1940s.
During WW2 some withdrawn units were used on the Mersey Railway, repainted in LMS livery, but were only used for works trains, not being required for passenger use in the end and were scrapped at end of WW2.
One coach still exists, waiting to be restored.
Requires finishing off, wheels etc
Scale HO (1/87 , 3.5mm/ft)
