Product Description
Thispendant is inspired by the radiolaria 'Saturnalis circularis.'Its structure consists of a perforated, bumpy radiolarian sphere surrounded by a circular ring connected to the sphere by two radial spines. Typical for the polycystine radiolaria, Saturnalis has a tiny sphere inside the larger sphere. First described by Ernst Haeckel, this unicellular organism has lived in our oceans for 60 million years. In comparison to S. circularis, other Saturnalidae can have oblong external rings, asymmetric placement of the inner sphere and spiked adornments on the external ring (Dumitrica & Hungerbühler, Revue de Micropaleontologie, 60(1):87-135).
The pendant is 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter.
Pendant does not ship from Shapeways with a chain. If you would like to purchase a chain along with this pendant, please click on the "ADD A CHAIN" button below the material dropdown. The pendant is designed so that the chain loops through the external ring and the internal sphere.
