Product Description
As part of the exchange program between the Klingons and the Romulans, the Romulans added their mauler technology to some old D6 heavy cruisers (one of which was sold back to the Klingons, who copied the technology and produced the ships domestically as D6Ms). The mauler was a massive cannon with a limiting firing arc. These ships were very useful in attacking bases, but could also destroy ships they targeted. Maulers became a combat force multiplier in fleet battles, but only the Coalition (Romulans, Klingons, and Lyrans) had the technology.
The engines, APRs, and the massive battery systems are all tied into the maulers. No power systems in the boom are connected to the mauler weapons. The KRM mauler cruiser may suffer shock when firing the mauler. Maulers are often used for other purposes (without firing the mauler) because their huge batteries make them the perfect ship to tractor beam the enemy flagship or plow through minefields using the batteries to reinforce the front shield. Like other Romulan heavy cruisers, it can carry a nuclear space mine and is equipped with a cloaking device. Known names include Onager, Balista, and Trebuchet. The fans asked for this smooth version (no belly bird, no scallops on the wings) for ease of adding decals.
The ship is available in a variety of materials. (Smooth Fine Detail Plastic makes an excellent cloaked ship!) Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
