Product Description
The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Trobrin are a silicon-based life form from the Omega Sector. Enemies of the Maesrons, they lost several wars and much of their territory, but bided their time and eventually were one of the empires that crushed the Maesrons in the later wars and became arguably the strongest superpower after the Maesron Collapse. Their “Silicate Plan” is to eventually subdue all “carbonites.” Their ships are armed with radiation phasers, implosion bolts, and implosion torpedoes.
The Trobrin bolt gunboat was somewhat large, as volatile warp gunboats go. It had somewhat weak shields, but relied on an armor belt and a larger-than-average battery deck to back them up. The bolt gunboat was armed with a pair of radiation phaser-1s, a pair of radiation phaser-3s, and a pair of forward-oriented implosion bolts. As with their larger warships, the Trobrin used bolt and torpedo (sold on a separate tree) variants interchangeably. It is deployed in flotillas of four, often with a leader but no scout.
The Trobrin bolt gunboat leader had 33% more battery and 100% more auxiliary power reactor space than the standard Trobrin gunboat, though its shielding and its armor belt were no stronger. As with other Omega Octant empires, the Trobrin did not develop a gunboat scout until well over a decade after their first gunboats entered service. Replacing the implosion bolts with special sensors, it was considered to be a relatively poor performer, and was never a universally deployed variant.
This tree of gunboats is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
