The
Sikorsky S-55 entered service with the
U.S. military in 1950 and served under several designations, including
HO4S (
Navy and Coast Guard),
HRS (
Marines), and
H-19 Chickasaw (
Army and Air Force). Over 1100 were built. In
Korea it served as an
Army transport and
Air Force rescue and medevac helicopter. It saw its last action with the U.S. military in the early days of the
Vietnam war. The
S-55 was used by the
French in
Algeria as both a transport and gunship, and many copies were built in Britain as the
Westland Whirlwind.
This model represents the versions
H-19B and
H-19D that had a different tail plane and an inclined tail cone.
This model is based in our
1/285 Sikorsky H-19B/D Chickasaw (S-55), some parts have been altered modified to better suit the new scale.
