Product Description
Complete set of pieces for one side/color.
Please note that you will need to buy two sets, one for each color.
When choosing the opposite color, be sure to select the same material as well for consistency.
The ancient game of Chess is most likely derived from 7th century India ("Chaturanga") and has many variants around the world. To me it’s fundamentally a geometric game, as all of the pieces have geometric constraints by which they can move. I wanted to strip away the personifications and objects typically found in chess sets (King, Queen, etc.) and reimagine the pieces as hyperbolic polyhedra, purely geometric forms, with an intuitive mapping for each piece.
The mapping:
Icosahedron = Queen (most number of sides, most versatile movement, all directions)
Dodecahedron = King (second most number of sides, all directions, only 1 square at a time)
Octahedron = Bishop (moves diagonally, note its diagonal form)
Tetrahedron = Knight (moves in 4s, the L-shaped 3+1)
Cube = Castle/Rook (moves vertically/horizontally)
Chess board not included.
