The Type 7 Shuttle was intended to be the shuttlecraft for the run of TNG. Andrew Probert designed a futuristic, rounded shape. Too rounded for the model builders who had difficulty in creating the elegant curves of the design exactly. So the filming miniature was a bit more boxy. It also turned out that the full size model was even more difficult to make with the given time and money. It didn't look very much like the filming model, let alone the sketch. So the Type 6 Shuttle was introduced later to replace it. This 3D model does follow the original design sketches by Andrew Probert closer than the filming model, representing the shuttle as it was supposed to look like.
