Product Description
Cassini spacecrafts final mission called is named for the Saturnian summer solstice occurring in May 2017. The mission spanning from 2010 to 2017 focussed on exploring the moons Titan and Enceladus, as well as some of Saturn’s other icy moons. Towards the end of the mission, Cassini made closer studies of the planet and its rings.
This hanging sculpture traces the “Solstice mission" trajectory as a 1.2mm diameter wire “ball of yarn”, that can be suspended from a thread, or placed on a flat surface. At the core of the sculpture, saturn itself is represented by a small sphere.
