Product Description
USS New Mexico (BB-40) was the lead ship in a class of three superdreadnoughts of the US Navy, launched in 1917 and completed the following year. The class was armed with twelve 14'' guns in four triple turrets and had a maximum speed of 21 knots. New Mexico spent the last few months of the Great War in shakedown, and escorted the ship with President Wilson on board to the Versailles Peace Conference. In July 1919, she became flagship of the Pacific Fleet and spent the next two decades in training and gunnery exercises. From 1940 she served in the Atlantic, until a refit in 1942, before departing for the Pacific campaign, where she participated in the Aleutians' invasion, the Marshall Islands, and the Philippines. Postwar, the ship was quickly decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1947.
