This model is based on one of five study models for the Excelsior Class, built in the course of the pre-production of "Star Trek III". For the size, i scaled the saucer and the engineering hull to about the same size as on the final Excelsior Class, resulting in a length of 386m for this 3D model. I also added a few details that are not on the study model but were taken from the final Excelsior.
This study model is very close to the third 2-nacelled study model which was ultimately chosen to become the NX-2000 USS Excelsior. That third model does look exactly like the final filming miniature minus a few minor details. If that third model ever appeared on screen somewhere (most probably only as a background ship), it wouldn't be distinguishable from a regular Excelsior Class ship. Unlike the other three study models, that were seen at the surplus depot at Qualor II in TNG: "Unification", this model was never seen in any episode. But according to Michael Okuda, all the Excelsior study models were provided for shooting the graveyard scene in "The Best of Both Worlds". Those shots were never used on that show, but as i mentioned earlier, they were later used in "Unification". So maybe this model was either never shot at all, or the shots were also not used in "Unification" too. Well, at least this allows us to assume this is also one of the 40 ships from the "Battle of Wolf 359".
