TLDR: THERE IS A DROPDOWN MENU TO CHOOSE THE "SIZE" OF THIS GEAR. "SMALL" IS FOR POLISHING THE SLOT, OTHER SIZES ARE FOR A (HOPEFULLY) DROP-IN PART SIZE.
You need some Tao resin gear teeth for these gears to be functional in your N64 joystick setup. Check the shop for those. They have a triangular hole in them. You may need to put a very thin layer of superglue where the gear teeth attaches to the bronze gear to give it a stong hold.
There are three variants of the long gear, "small," "medium," and "large." The sizes refer only to the size of the slot.
If you choose "large," you will have a functional and somewhat tight gear that is nearly 100% likely to be functional out of the box.
If you choose "medium" you will have a functional and tight gear that is 90+% likely to be functional out of the box.
If you choose "small" it is likely that it will be functional and tight that is 90+% likely to be functional out of the box.
If there are any problems with feel or functionality at all, there is some gritty feel inside the gear slot or the gear is a tiny bit too tight. I recommend choosing the "small" variant if you intend to polish or if you have an "undersized" stick in the "X" dimension (the hammer width). Choose the "large" variant if you're a chicken and want to be sure that your gear is functional without post-processing or if your stick is "oversized" in the "X" dimension (hammer width). "Medium" basically varies around healthy OEM values.
I can not guarantee that you will like the feel of the gear in your setup. If you choose to use a metal stick with this gear, use Tamiya Molybdenum grease. These gears are quite durable compared to plastic gears, so the trade-off in feel could be the increased longevity. You may find these to feel just great for your purposes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
