The design of this set of chess pieces if probably the most compact one around: Inspired by the Bauhaus chess game design by Josef Hartwig, all the pieces can be put together so that the whole set forms a solid block, with no spaces in between. Because of this, you get reaaallly large pieces to play with, from a realllyyy small box.
At the same time, the resulting design does not compromise the character of the pieces. Rather the opposite, through the task of designing the pieces in such a way that they could be assembled in a simple and intuitive way, the designs form an organic, yet geometrical, whole - both in the way it is folded together (king fits into queen, rooks rocksolidly getting their teeth together, minor pieces merging in a criss-cross fashion)
In fact, the chess set is accompanied by a chess board that can be folded into a box such that the pieces can be placed exactly into this box (as you can see from the pictures and video). I'm currently optimizing the design of the box for it to be even more shapeways-friendly, so at the moment I'm only selling the pieces. But don't worry, it will be on sale here soon enough!
In any case, the pieces are beautiful just by themselves and by finding a suitable box (12x5x5.5cm internal measures) their compactness comes in just as handy!
