Product Description
This ring is based on a dip slip fault. Faults, where two blocks of rock move relative to one another, arise from the motion of the earth's crust and upper mantle (plate tectonics). Faults are classified by the direction of the movement of block against block. With a dip slip fault, the fault plane is angular with respect to the crust and the motion of the rocks is also vertical/angular. The ring depicts a normal dip slip fault as the hanging wall block (right side of ring) is moving down with respect to the footwall block (left side of ring).
Ring shown was printed in polished silver. The rock strata are depicted on the top of the ring and the earth's surface is depicted on the side of the ring.
