Lexington-class battlecruiser
what-if late-war refit; stripping down original superstructure and rebuilt , taking cues from various real-world USN BB; with 14x 5"/38cal in single enclosed turrets
- studies started as early as 1911 to counter the Japanese' construction of the
Kongō class. Laid down 1920, but was cancelled in 1922 due to the Washington Naval Treaty (though 2 were converted into aircraft carriers:
Lexington and
Saratoga)
- they were originally meant to carry 8x 406mm/50cal Mk guns in 4 dual turrets, 16x single 6" (casemate and open mounts), 4x single 3" (for AA), and beam-mounted 21" TT x8.
