Diesel frugality and hardtop coupe style may seem like odd bedfellows, but the timing was right for the Mercedes-Benz 300CD to be the height of fuel crisis chic. Exclusive to the North American market, the diesel coupe gained a turbocharger in 1982, bringing performance nearly into the range of acceptability for the price and prestige of a Mercedes two-door. This model represents the C123 coupe as it appeared on the American market from 1978-85, with the optional "Bundt" alloy wheels.
