sergem1 https://www.shapeways.com/rrstatic/material_docs/mds-strongflex.pdf says melting point 180C and softening is at 163C whereas MSDS just says melting temp is >80C :) Anyway, boiling water is never more than 100C unless it is in a pressure cooker, so that does not seem to be an issue. sergem1 From what I was able to find out, Nylon 12 is FDA listed: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?fr=177.1500 Another laser sintering site goes ahead to call it FDA approved: http://www.lasersintering.com/sls-material.php Its melting temp is way higher than the water boiling point. MSDS specifically asks to avoid inhaling or ingesting the dust though: https://www.shapeways.com/rrstatic/material_docs/msds-strongflex.pdf For myself, I decided that the main food contact issue is dust - so I washed it super thoroughly with a brush before the first use.
