Hello, I recently received a print from Shapeways. I followed the "Cleaning and painting Fine Detail Plastic models" tutorial in preparation for priming. I've tried all of the methods as described in the tutorial with the exception of acetone. I'm left with, what I assume is, "wax support material" (please see photo below). Is this in fact "wax support material"?
Received an email from Shapeways stating that the marring is an "expected result and can't be improved". Shapeways should not be touting Smooth Fine Detail Plastic as a premium material that "showcases fine and intricate details" without also stating that the printing process will in fact mar the "fine and intricate details".
Have you checked out this thread: https://www.shapeways.com/forum/t/fine-detail-plastic-crystallization-formation.68722/page-12 I very much agree with your comments - I too am frustrated by what Shapeways considers 'quality'.
Cost-curing, or exposing the model to UV light after printing, is still necessary for Smooth Fine Detail plastic and can be completed in a UV light booth that the printer's maker sells. I found this information relevant in my case
