Attention wargamers, model railroaders, and miniaturists! Last week, we shared that we were shortening production turnaround times on a dozen materials, but we’re not done yet. This week, we’re cutting the lead time for one of our most popular materials, Frosted Ultra Detail plastic, in half — from six business days to three. That means you can get your planes, trains, and figurines in record-breaking time!
We were able to shave this much time off the process by adding new machines to increase manufacturing capacity while making our planning and post-processing systems more efficient.
Now is a great time to print your favorite model railroad car, sci-fi miniatures, or wargaming products — and enjoy them faster than ever!
For a chance to be featured on the blog, let us know in the comments how you’re using Frosted Ultra Detail plastic in your designs.
I already noticed an increase in speed since the first of January, but three days is amazing for FUD! It’s brilliant for pre-production work of my models. You never know if your design fits well with the rest of the parts, specially when you are making a cast of it, so it’s essential for the workflow to see a real world result really fast. Now we only have to hope it doesn’t bring more customers to Shapeways, who take up the space in all the new machines… 😉
Strange!!!
I have just placed an order today (19th Jan) and its saying the 4th February for completion which is a lot longer than the 3 days you are claiming, you sure the lead time is correct?
That does sound strange. Is FUD the only material in the order? the order will ship whenever the last material is done and each material has a different leadtime, so if you have FUD and Brass in the same order the leadtime will reflect the brass not the FUD. If you only have FUD can you reach out to us at service@shapeways.com with your order number so we can help?
Nope, single order just in FUD
What size model ? Reduced lead time is only for parts smaller than 5cm (~2in) in all dimensions, everything bigger still takes (up to) ten business days according to the materials page.
Please, slow down a little and take more care.
You are shipping parts that have not been properly cleaned and broken during packing because you are rushing to meet this new shorter flow rate. I would rather wait a few more days and get perfect parts first time than receive useless parts that I have to go through customer service to get replacements
Hi,
For my project, I have to 3D print the Microfluidic device which has a size of 50*20 mm with a channel. I have designed the 3D model using the software, Solidworks. It is preferred to be 3D printed in Stereolithography(SLA) with the material of Acrylate based resin. Thus, May I know whether your company help me print? And whether this particular printer and material is available?
Thanks
How about slower and cheaper shipping fees!?
Here at Original Train & Rail we use frosted material since 2011 for our designs !

Well, I placed an order on the 14th all FUD plastic and a week later most of the items (4 out of 6) still “in production” so I don’t think the 3 days printing and shipping is that accurate or it doesn’t applies for every FUD order.
You should specify in which cases it applies.
Hey Muerto,
The printing should only take longer than 3 days when all the bounding box dimensions are over 50mm for your items. If one of the items in your order is larger than that, all the other parts wait at our distribution centers until the last item comes in.
It’s specified on the materials guidelines page:

But definitely, when having questions about this just ping us here, on our forums or via service@shapeways.com!
Cheers,
Ruud
