What is Vapor Smoothing?

Our customers choose vapor smoothing for both aesthetic (the smooth, shiny surface can really make parts stand out) and functional (including reduced porosity and improved mechanical performance) reasons. 

Using a controlled chemical vapor process, this method creates a smooth, sealed surface, making parts look and feel more like traditional injection-molded components. This is especially valuable for industries requiring high aesthetic and functional performance, such as automotive, healthcare and consumer goods.

Because the process is an automated, chemical process it can be used on complex geometries and parts with intricate features where physical and manual processes cannot reach.

  • Injection Molding-like Finish — end use perception is improved as 3D printed models that are vapor smoothed look more like the injection molded parts they are familiar with.
  • Vibrant Colors — the sealed surface of parts allows the colors of the part to ‘pop’, removing the muted tones inherent to powder-based manufacture.
