Edrice’s powerful-looking Dota® Signet Ring

Fan art is something that’s always gone hand-in-hand with the things people love: comic books, television, and sports, just to name a few. That’s why fan art for video games is both abundant and diverse. But what happens when a fan of a particular video game, say Dota® 2 (you know, just the second-most popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena of all time), also has the ability to create amazing 3D printed custom Dota® 2 products? That, dear reader, is when they need to open up a Shapeways store. And, if they do it before Nov. 17, they could win lots of things.

Thanks to Shapeways’ new partnership with Valve, we’re seeing new Dota® 2 pieces pop up in all different sections of our marketplace daily (though I’m still waiting for someone to make a chibi Roshan statue with a wheel of cheese). So, without further ado, here are some of the coolest Dota® 2 products on Shapeways. We hope you find the creativity we uncovered just as inspirational as we did, because wow — this stuff is inventive, awesome, and sometimes hilarious.

Dota® 2 Models

With a game like Dota® 2, models are always going to be the most widely represented product we have. There’s no mystery behind it — Valve has given creators a massive cast of amazing characters to work with, and bringing their beauty, design, and detail to a 3D model is something you have to see to believe. For instance…

Baldurs Tod’s Incredibly Detailed Roshan

The last time I talked about Baldurs Tod, I couldn’t help but obsess on his Team Fortress 2 statues. But seeing his incredibly detailed, incredibly accurate model of uber-creep Roshan blew me away. Sure, those with some painting skill could make him look even more realistic with a custom paint job over the white Strong & Flexible plastic, but the stainless steel model was the one that really blew me away. The texture of the stainless really stands out here, making Roshan’s ancient carapace feel that much more realistic.

Miniature Den’s Double Threat

Even if you don’t know much about Dota® 2 or its lore, do you really need to understand much when it comes to a knight in sweet black platemail flanked by a badass dragon? Not much, I’d say. Bilal Majeed Khan of Miniatures Den has a wide line of Dota® 2 figurines, but this one took the cake for me because it’s just a classic combination brought to life by 3D printing. It’s two figures in one, essentially, and the detail in this model is just as precise as all of the other work on Bilal’s page. It’s a great focus piece to put on a shelf and zone out on, thinking of all the cool adventures these guys would get up to, slaying foes and gettin’ money. Or maybe that’s just me.

Mostly Jewelry‘s Least Jewelry-Related Pieces

Mostly Jewelry’s model, and a promo image of Tinker for comparison

Making a 3D scale model is challenging enough, but when you add in the insane amount of detail that comes with bringing a character like the Tinker to life, you kind of jump off the deep end. Despite the difficulty, creator Peter Lemmens gives us this spot-on rendition of everyone’s favorite meme beast. Getting this statue in real life means that you might get some flack from other Dota® 2 fans in your office, but hey, it’s worth it to rep your love for the ultimate 1-V-9 hero.

Dota® 2 Tech

When it comes to making tech accessories for this game, we’re just beginning to see the possibilities come to life. But what we’ve found so far is super impressive:

Tigri’s Keycaps’ Pudge Cherry MX Keycap

Anyone can get some hot Cherry MX keycaps. However, nothing says “I love Dota® 2” on your keyboard more than having the horrifying visage of an undead butcher held together by his own twine. Pudge is an abomination, to be sure, but he sure does look pretty when you pop him on as your Escape key. If you’ve got a sweet custom keyboard with Cherry MX switches, then this keycap is definitely for you. And it comes without the putrid smell of decaying flesh! That’s always good.

Dota® 2 Accessories

And while there aren’t as many Dota® 2 accesories as there are toys, there are still quite a few, and they all look great. Don’t believe me? Check these out:

The Dota® 2 Belt Buckle by IvanGolota

Belt buckles are in no short supply here on Shapeways, but they don’t seem to get as much love as, say, rings or necklace pendants. So in the interests of showing off some other littler-known pieces on Shapeways, as well as just showing off a really awesome belt buckle, check out this great piece from creator Ivan Golota. The brass version of the buckle adds to the piece’s timeworn feel, making it feel almost — dare I say it — ancient. Getting this in any metal finish would look great, but the plastic versions are definitely not too shabby as well.

Dota® 2 Signet Ring by Edrice

Edrice has won us over again with this preeeeetty impressive signet ring. The first time, by the way, was when the designer brought us full color sandstone Grumpy Cat. But we digress. This feels like The One Ring for Dota® 2 players. This ring seems like a good luck charm. Or the Super Bowl ring of Dota® 2 world. Just wear it and feel its power.

What’s missing from this article?

Your piece! We’re always looking for new designs to add to roundups like these, so take advantage of the new Valve + Shapeways partnership, create the Valve product of your dreams, and share it in the comments. There’s always room for creativity and ingenuity in our community, and of course, it makes for a great article. And don’t forget — from now until until Nov. 17th, all the licensed Valve merch you put up for sale will enter you to win some very cool prizes, plus a bunch of Shapeways money.

Happy creating!

Editor’s note: While we normally only feature products that have already been printed, Valve products are new to the marketplace, so many are still awaiting their first prints. We’ll keep this post updated as we get IRL pics of the featured products.
