Hickies, the innovative and fun alternative to laces have been using Shapeways for a long time to prototype and develop their products, and they are now launching the next next level in shoe decor…PUNGAS.

PUNGAS are 3D printed shoe accessories that are easy to put on, wearable on different parts of your sneakers and transform your shoes into works of art. They are a fantastic example of using 3D printing for mass customization.

All PUNGAS will be printed by Shapeways here in New York and will hopefully change the conversation from “what country are you producing in?” to “what neighborhood are you producing in?”

PUNGAS will make their debut to the world in Berlin at the Pictoplasma art conference starting tomorrow, April 30th. They will have an exhibit showcasing exclusive art pieces done by artists as well as selling PUNGAS out of a vending machine. PUNGAS just reached their goal on Kickstarter so join them in celebrating at the launch tomorrow in Berlin.

We can’t wait to see which PUNGAS you will choose for your shoes!
