Grab your Pip-Boys, clear off the game table, and crack an ice-cold Nuka-Cola, because everyone’s favorite post-apocalyptic video game is getting its own tabletop miniatures game! Fallout 4 was publisher Bethesda’s best-selling game to date, and tabletop games behemoth Modiphius is looking to do the same with Fallout: Wasteland Warfare.

Modiphius has a great track record with tabletop games of all stripes, starting with their Kickstarter-funded smash tabletop RPG Achtung! Cthulhu and more recently the highly lauded miniatures game Star Trek Adventures. It sounds like Fallout couldn’t be in better hands, and I for one cannot wait to play it.

Using highly-detailed 32mm scale resin miniatures, Modiphius is bringing the grim, intense, and often humorous world of Fallout to life in three game modes: cooperative, player vs. player, and solo play against a customizable “AI Deck” designed to emulate the play styles of the various factions in-game. In other modes, players will be able to create their own crews of three to 30 characters and complete missions that run the gamut from a complete narrative arc to quick side quests. Settlements can be built, attacked, and defended. You can upgrade your team’s gear, stats, and weaponry using Crew Caps earned by completing missions.

Since Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is miniature-based, many of the promotional images released to date have shown characters.

Fallout: Wargaming in the Wasteland

Aww, that Deathclaw wants a hug!

Modiphius also promises “ a huge variety of iconic scenery and settlement buildings.” That Nuka-Cola machine in the background is a great start.

My heart flutters with anticipation to see what our makers will end up (literally) bringing to the table. And if Modiphius ends up running low on ideas, all they have to do is take a quick look at the Shapeways Marketplace for some inspiration. Imagine going into battle against a giant Nuka-Cola mascot, or hacking into a bunch of protectrons to shield you against those nasty-looking super mutants above.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is set to release in November 2017, with pre-orders possible later this summer. Until then, I think I’m gonna go play some New Vegas to get into the mood.

And if you decide to venture back into the wasteland for a little refresher, don’t forget to take man’s best friend with you…
