Set in alternative WW2 soviet Russia, this terrifyingly awesome walker dieselpunk tank would make short work of even the heftiest tiger tank on the battlefield. Created by shapeways designer NoahLi, the walker tank is fully 3D printed in Strong and Flexible plastic and available for sale in components to be assembled as a kit.
NoahLi has been been updating us on his progress via the shapeways forums and his imgur gallery, and the results are simply astounding. By designing the parts in separate components, this tank is fully posable and can be customized with a variety of turrets. After printing NoahLI demonstrates how to paint details onto the plastic model to give it that grimmy, worn look.

We’re blown away but the level of detail in this scifi war machine. You can find all the parts of the N Scale Walker Tank here, and show us how’d you’d paint it!
I don’t know what is harder modeling or painting this crazy looking masterpiece.
Although I am very impressed by the design and skills of the creator, it makes me feel uncomfortable that this is the second ‘war toy’ that Shapeways is promoting. In a time were terrorism and fear of a new war are hot topics, do we really need to inspire people with stuff that is associated with killing each other and leave a path of destruction in the process? There are so many beautiful designs on Shapeways, I think we can skip this and search for designs that inspire people to work together, respect, appreciate and help each other and enjoy the beauty we can create together.
@Specie, I think this is a larger issue: why do toy guns, combat action figures, violent video games, and explosively violent action films sell so well? They’re exciting, on a base level. Until humans evolve into some higher form of intelligence where this base pleasure in stuff exploding is overcome, this is always going to be the case. Shapeways promoting or not promoting a retro fantasy war machine makes zero difference to this.
The threat of industrialised war and terrorism are not new things; they’ve been present constantly for the past 100 years, I would argue that they’re no more hot topics now than 10 or 20 years ago.
I’m not condoning violence, I find real violence abhorrent. I’m noting there’s a big difference between fantasy and reality for most people.
