If you are looking for inspiration, design advice and ideas for how you can use 3D Printing to realize your creative vision, we are excited to share a new series in our tutorials section: “How I Made,” written by designers in the Shapeways community to share their unique perspectives, design processes, tips, tricks, and tools.

The first in the series features artist Megan Sawyer, a Carnegie Mellon graduate who works at a software company and is a fan of bats. Megan says, “I love bats, and thought bat wings would be such a cute and spooky alternative to the normal angel wing designs for earrings. But, I was disappointed by the selection of spooky earrings for people with stretched/gauged ears!”

She decided to make her own custom earrings and signed up for the Intro to 3D Printing Skillshare class taught by Lauren Slowik, Shapeways Designer Evangelist.

Megan’s tutorial walks readers through the design process from sketch, importing to 3D modeling software, preparing the model for 3D printing, uploading and ordering from Shapeways, and refining and improving on her design.

Read the full tutorial here and learn more about how you create 3D Printed earrings and can bring your own ideas from sketch to finished product with Shapeways.
