3D printing is arguably the speediest and most versatile way to bring an idea to life, so it’s no surprise that our community of jewelry designers is using Shapeways to both ride the wave of and reimagine some of our favorite jewelry trends from this summer and beyond. 1. Minimalism
This trend has been around for a couple of years, but its reach only grows as more and more designers strive for a sleek, androgynous look — and accessories that will keep the clean lines going. 2. Tassels
Accurately heralded as the earring trend that won’t go away, tassels can be seen dangling from the ears and necklaces of just about everyone. That’s why we love this unexpected and unique cast metal interpretation of a traditional soft tassel from Prexus.
3. Signets and Seals
We’re not sure if signets should even be called a trend since they’re so timeless, but we had to highlight this 3D printed Egyptian version from The Silver Suite nonetheless. Forever fans of antique pieces, we love the marriage of new technology with this trendy esoteric design.
4. Open-Ended Cuff Rings
We love the U-shaped cuffs hugging the fingers of style bloggers everywhere, and we didn’t think that trend could actually get better. But then we found the Wave Ring from Modern Basic and fell in love with this whimsical climber version of the classic cuff shape.
5. Chokers
Since the early ’90s, choker shave proven to be a versatile addition to pretty much any look. Trendy, edgy, and flattering, this geometric cuff style from Feel Wonder is an unexpected take on the style. Pro tip: Those who are down to do a little crafting can order a unique 3D printed charm and attach it to a plain choker with a standard jump ring to take part in this highly customizable trend.
6. Snakes and Serpents
With roots in ancient and mythological cultures, and a long stint as a Victorian jewelry trend, jewelry wrapped in snakes and serpents is still at the top of our modern fashion lexicon. The intricacy of this Raw Bronze version from Pookas definitely would have been fit for the Queen.
7. Evil Eye Amulets
Widely used as a protective amulet against general ill will and bad vibes, it’s not surprising that the evil eye symbol is maintaining a strong foothold in the jewelry trend space during these uncertain times. Arm yourself against bad juju with this ring and charm set from Bixie Studios.
8. Ear Wraps
Love edgy cartilage earrings, but hate needles? You should know about the Playground Ear Wrap from lexadazy. This cage-like bauble just slides over the top and hugs your ear like an arm cuff, so you can look tough as nails with no sweat. Thanks, lexadazy!
9. Neo-Pearls
High-end designers like Gucci and Chanel have been acing the Neo-Pearl trend this season, remixing traditional pearls through juxtaposition, scale, and bold settings. We love this lenticular reinterpretation of a traditional pearl ring from WeterOberfell.
10. Punk
Always poised to pull out our inner rebel, we’re thrilled that the punk aesthetic constantly seems to be having its moment in the jewelry trend landscape. From studs to safety pins, chains to spikes, we love it all, but we especially appreciate the architectural nature of 3D printed punk-inspired jewelry.
