I have finally brought my Lego compatible rods for Lego steam locomotives to Shapeways.

There are a couple of differences from the rods I sell directly. The first is that Shapeways gray is closer to dark blay (dark stone gray) while my gray is closer to light blay (light stone gray). Second, with Shapeways production, I am finally able to offer red and black variants on demand. Third, Shapeways printing cannot achieve the tolerance of Lego's injection molded parts and there is no way to size the pin holes so that they will fit perfectly after every print. I have done my best to ensure that on average the pin holes will be slightly smaller than what you need, since you can always drill out a tight hole but you cannot add material to a loose hole. Note that the possibility of having to drill out the holes only applies to parts ordered from Shapeways, for the parts I sell directly I am able to test the holes on the parts I make myself to ensure both rotation and "click-ability", so there should be no need to modify those rods.
