t_a_cowell @dangee050607 - Hi Daniel Yes, it would run without the tender. You'd probably want to add a tender of your own devising, or perhaps add a bunker and call it a well tank. The rear coupling on the chassis sticks out beyond the footplate, so that would still be usable (I've just tried it).

t_a_cowell @Chirthorpe Hi there, thanks for your interest and encouragement. At the moment I'm concentrating on this Hornby 0-4-0 chassis because it is so cheap in comparison to everything else. At the moment I'm working on a tender engine design. But in the future I would certainly like to look at other chassis, and 0-6-0 would be a good choice.
