It does sound like the TV cable may have been out of adjustment as there should never be enough tension on the clip to cause the end stop retainer to break like that. A good way to check this would be to roll the throttle by hand with the clip attached feeling for above normal tension on the cable. The throttle should be able to roll all the way open without issue. If the cable becomes too tight to turn by hand with clip attached, it could be possible that at high throttle while pushing on gas pedal, clip may become damaged. The 3D printing process Shapeways utilizes is selective laser sintering (SLA) as opposed to typical home printers which are normally fused deposition modeling (FDM).
