UPDATE: Discount has been increased to 15% off for registered students and faculty. Please see our Education Program page for additional updates.
______________________________________________________________________
Today we have launched the first stage of the Shapeways Educational Program with an awesome 10% discount on 3D printing for all students and educators with a Shapeways account registered with an .edu email address.
This is our first step at helping students and educators have better access to high quality 3D printing through Shapeways. We will be rolling out more features as part of the Shapeways Education Program so that everyone from elementary to post graduate students can use 3D printing to help them learn, understand and communicate their ideas whether they be technical, artistic or conceptual.
Register for the 10% discount on all 3D printing by visiting the Shapeways Education page and activating your email. The 10% discount will automatically be applied at checkout unless you have another discount code you wish to enter. You can still use Shapeways credit and your student discount at the same time.
We will continuously monitor and review the educational discount so that we can optimize it to students needs which may involve a change in the terms under which we offer the discount. We will keep all of those registered for the education discount updated on any changes and/or additions to the program. We will also work to include other educational institutions that do not have an .edu domain for their emails in the near future.
Please pass on the details of the discount to your friends, fellow students and teachers, the more people that are registered and use the educational discount, the more incentive there is for Shapeways to develop the educational program further.
If you have any other ideas you would like to see implemented into the Shapeways educational program please email education@shapeways.com
I have a school email address ending with .sch.uk can I use this? I am 16 and currently go to a secondary school in the UK
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your comment, all feedback is greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately at this point we only enable .edu email adresses but if you fill out your details you will be notified when we enable your school, hopefully very soon.

Dont have a .edu either, all students from the Technical university of Delft dont.
We have …@student.tudelft.nl, please include this in the next update!
(I’v filled in the form you link to Duann)
Thanks Thomas,
The more people that fill out that for the more incentive to activate more domains.
Please forward this to your entire school and we will get this activated sooner than later. (Yes, the entire school)
Forwarding a service that isn’t functional yet isn’t verry effective in my opinion.
When @student.tudelft.nl is available (should be easy to confirm its student adres from your eindhoven office) ill post this on IDE facebook group of Industrial design engineering TuDelft.
Thanks Thomas,
I have passed on your opinion to our product team.
Thanks,
I know that dropbox.com has a database with known educational extensions and with registering they instantly know what institution your studying at.
Might be good to work on such a datatase with the users imput?
And I have another question, what if you are alredy registered with another account?
Hi Thomas, you can change you current account to an .edu address then register that account as an edu account.
Please do pass on this URL to other students and teachers at your school.

The more people who register here the sooner it will become available to more domains.
Thank you for your interest and help.
my college email ends with @owl.ucc.edu and when i try to send the activation email i get a yellow bar with an alert _/!\_ symbol in it and nothing comes up in my email
is it because there are multiple extentions to the address?
Oh no!!!
I will check with the dev team to see if there is any issues with that.
unimelb.edu.au doesn’t count as an edu address?
The same problem for RMIT.
I’m a student at RMIT Melbourne and all our e-mails end with .edu.au
P.S. Love your work Henry. I’ve been following your channel on youtube for a few months now.
Thanks Robert!
Hi Robert,
I know RMIT has the MOST AMAZING digital fabrication facility in the southern hemisphere. I was green with envy when I saw it.
Anyway, please do pass on this URL to other students and teachers at your school.

The more people who register here the sooner it will become available to Aussie students.
Awesome!
But what if I replace my email under my shapeways account settings with an edu email? Would that work too?
Yes, that will work.
Aw man! Ordered nearly €400 worth of prototypes in the last month… could have done with this earlier 🙁
Also, I’m at university in UK, we only use .ac.uk email addresses.
Hey Nick,
We have just launched this as a new discount.
If your school does not have an .edu address please go to http://www.shapeways.com/education/ and enter yourdomain in the spreadsheet via this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1eWMaXB9THkejyIbfh0XQvCAtjMPMner6VsxttqcIfRg/viewform and ask your fellow students to do the same, the more people who register, the sooner we will integrate it.
Thanks
Is this valid for elementary and high school students?
This discount is for all students with an .edu email address.
Does retrofitting our accounts with an .edu address work as well? Wish I would have known this sooner. I have been registered with my personal email for 3 years now.
Hey Tom,
That will work if you update the email in your account then register on the education page, we have only just enabled this discount so you have not missed out on this.
Please do pass on the details to everyone you know to http://www.shapeways.com/education/ and enter their domain in the spreadsheet via this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1eWMaXB9THkejyIbfh0XQvCAtjMPMner6VsxttqcIfRg/viewform the more people that register the sooner we will integrate it.
Thanks
Looks like only US schools have an address in edu, right ?
Do you plan something for people elsewhere in the world ?
Hi Francesco,
Some schools have edu.au or edu.uk that we should have live very soon. for all others the more people that go to http://www.shapeways.com/education/ and enter their domain in the spreadsheet via this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1eWMaXB9THkejyIbfh0XQvCAtjMPMner6VsxttqcIfRg/viewform the sooner we will integrate it.
Please pass this on to everyone you know to make it happen as soon as possible.
Thanks for you interest.
Seems like Shapeways opened up a whole can of worms with this one…
“Only U.S. postsecondary institutions that are institutionally accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education’s list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies (see recognized accrediting bodies) may obtain an Internet name in the .edu domain. These include both “Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies” and “National Institutional and Specialized Accrediting Bodies” recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Note that institutional accreditation is required for .edu eligibility; program accreditation is not sufficient. Not all agencies accredit institutions. Some accredit only institutions, some accredit only programs, and others accredit both institutions and programs.”
Hi Glenn,
This was a can of worms we were expecting and are prepared for, we just needed to gauge interest and use this feedback to allocate resources to make this happen.
The more people that go to http://www.shapeways.com/education/ and enter their domain in the spreadsheet via this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1eWMaXB9THkejyIbfh0XQvCAtjMPMner6VsxttqcIfRg/viewform the sooner we will integrate it.
I know it is not optimal, but please pass this on to all students and educators so that we can get this spread beyond the US as soon as possible.
Thanks again
