The proper designation is actually F5WC, but the shorter FWC is commonly used in databases with limited text fields. The installation of a K-refit on the FWC (F5WC) war destroyer leader produced the FWL (F5WL) war destroyer leader. This refit simply kept the ship in line with its steadily evolving opponents. The proper designation is F5WL, but this is usually shorted to FWL in databases with limited text fields.

A refitted ship simply continued using its pre-refit name.
