Product Description
The Lyran Democratic Republic (LDR) began as the Dark Star County of the Enemy's Blood Duchy of the Lyran Empire. The ruling family was corrupt, and a revolution slaughtered the family and declared a democracy, but still loyal to Enemy's Blood. The Duke decided to remove the democrats and install his second son as the new count, which would strengthen his rule as he would be able to count on his son's support. The adjacent Foremost Duchy thought it better if the Dark Star County became independent as this would weaken their rivals at Enemy’s Blood. Dark Star County eventually became fully independent, albeit only because Foremost protected it from Enemy's Blood. The LDR then made a deal with the Hydrans, gaining Gatling phaser technology in exchange for a promise to never rejoin the Lyran Empire. Their “smooth hull” ships reflect the cleaner lines of thought and lower maintenance support of the republic.

The LDR actually used Klingon pods and never converted a ship to this design, preferring the light tactical transport and general tugs (although they studied the transport frigate and the war destroyer transport). Had they chosen a different path, then they may have used this fleet version of the tug design, with fewer weapons to lower the cost, and able to carry Lyran pallets. This version is carrying a Lyran carrier pallet that could turn a cruiser-sized tug into a carrier with a squadron of 12 fighters. This would have been for limited emergency use as the tugs had too many things to do to allow permanent conversion. The pallet is not capable of independent operations but must be attached to a tug to operate its fighters. Because of the configuration, a carrier pallet could only be carried by a light tactical transport as inactive cargo. While a carrier pod could be carried by a transport tug, this would produce a less effective warship because the tug itself has fewer weapons.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
