A standard small (type-I) freighter consisted of a single cargo pod (of any of various types) with a drive unit in the back and a control unit in the front. The two units were connected by a small tunnel comprising a turbolift shaft and power connections.) In normal operations, a freighter would bring its cargo pod to the destination and pick up another cargo pod (which had been left on a previous trip).
