FRB02 - LNWR (FR) 2 Ton Iron Slate Wagon (Unbraked)
This was an LNWR built wagon closely following the design of the FR 2 Ton wagons for transporting slate on standard gauge transporter wagons to the quay at Deganwy, avoiding the need to alter narrow gauge trackwork in the slate quarries.
The model features full undeframe detailing and an easy to build design of axlebox assembly . The boxes themselves are sold separately, as Axleboxes AB05. Use Couplings CPL02 and Slater's curved spoke wheelsets to finish.
To assemble a wagon, attach a coupling to each end, retaining the tail in place along the central spine with a 16BA screw (or prferably an M0.8 nut and bolt from the Prime Miniatures range).Next, test fit each axlebox in the respctive socket in the wagon underframe. If it is tight, a light stroke of a file on the front face of the axlebox 'plug' should be all that is required. Slater's wheel bearings simply press fit in the rear of the axlebox. Pop an axlebox on each end of an axle and press them into the wagon underframe, securing with the pins supplied with the axleboxes, or alternatively suitable hex headed scale hardware. You will fnd a light twist with a 1mm drill beneficial when using the supplied pins. That is all there is to it!
I particularly recommend printing in a processed plastic, particularly yllow or orange as any wear to the paint on the couplers will not show itself alarmingly. The grainy feel of the Nylon powder material is particularly good at representing old weathered iron, however it can be finished smooth by painting in high build primer followed by rubbing down with a fibreglass pencil for a smooth finish.
