Product Description
The australian Destroyer Escort HMAS Torrens entered service in 1971. The Torrens was part of the series of River Class Destroyer Escorts. Ordered in 1964 the design based on the british Type 12 Class Frigate and elements of the improved Leander Class. She was armed with a twin 4,5in Mk. VI Turret, a Seacat AA-Missile Launcher, Limbo ASW Motar and an Ikara ASW Missilie Laucher. In 1979 the Limbo was removed in favour of 2 x Mk. 32 ASW Tripple Torpedo Tubes . The model shows this condition.
The Torrens was decomissioned in 1998 and sunk as target ship by torpedos from the submarine HMAS Farncomb June 14. 1999.
