Product Description
Skiffs were very small starships, with crews of 5-to-25, used for short-range utility missions. All empires used similar designs that are close enough to each other to be indistinguishable at the level of the games. All skiffs can land on planet, asteroids, or even comets.

The most common type is the Security Skiff, which has missile racks and phasers. It is designed for use by police and government agencies, but some have been sold into private hands. In either case, it is mostly used for local security and law enforcement. It doesn't need more firepower than it has, as the only "enemy" it is designed to face is a freighter that tries to evade paying its import/export taxes.

The Seeker Skiff is built on the same spaceframe as the Security Skiff, but has no missile racks and (as a result) more internal storage and cargo space. It is used primarily by explorers and sometimes government inspectors, and as a sort of "business jet" to move important people around the star system or (rarely) to nearby star systems.

The Slammer Skiff has more weapons on an expanded Security Skiff hull and was introduced during the General War to provide local security organizations with more firepower. Some of these were sold to corporations for private security. Even the Slammer has nothing close to the firepower of a true naval gunboat such as the Klingon G1 or Kzinti Needle.

The Modular Courier is a different design, used primarily by non-military types. It has more cargo, lower speed, and very limited combat capability. It is, in one sense, just the largest of shuttlecraft, and is used for utility transport missions, such as taking supplies to mining stations on asteroids. It is also used by explorers, prospectors, and university professors taking graduate students on field trips. These are the most common of skiffs but almost always operate alone.

This tree of skiffs is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
