The moon is our planet's closest companion, orbiting us at a distance of 384,400km. Throughout human history the moon has played a significant role in the myths and calendars of many cultures. It also regulates our tides and reflects sunshine, giving us light in the darkness.
History was made when NASA successfully landed a manned spacecraft on the moon in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission, where astronauts brought back moon rocks. This and subsequent missions brought back 380 kg of lunar rocks, which have been used to gain a better geological understanding of the Moon's origin, the formation of its internal structure and its history.
This pendant pays tribute to the moon and the impact it has on our planet, our culture and our psyche.
