Product Description
This is the original Tiamarda ironclad, a Bulmutian gun battery designed to bombard Alexandrian and Drachanian ports. This ship was revolutionary for its day, being completely immune to contemporary cannon-fire, and armed with a ram as a last resort against wooden warships. However, steam power was still in its infancy at the time, and the battery was quite slow. Furthermore, the battery had such a short range that it was frequently towed by sailing frigates, which it would then have to protect from enemy warships. Following its success as a battery, the Bulmutians began building armoured frigates on the same hull, rather than simply taking conventional frigates and fitting them with armour plates. Though the Tiamarda itself was not considered a proper warship (hence being an "it" and not having an italicised name), the Tiamarda hull became quite popular in the following years on both ships that were traditionally laid out, and on the more modern designs that dispensed with gun decks in favour of turrets.
