Product Description
I admit, the term "spitfire dromon" is redundant, considering that most dromons were armed with fire siphons anyway. I named this ship so because it is identical to my spitfire caravel, but has oars in addition to sails. As far as I know, no historical galley ever had four masts, as the whole point of adding more sails was to reduce the ship's dependence on rowing for propulsion. Removing the oars also made room for broadside cannons following the Medieval period. I would therefore consider this ship to be a "stop-gap" design, capable of weaving in and out of enemy fleets and burning them before they could aim and fire. It should make an interesting addition to your wargaming fleet. Keep in mind, if you want a historical dromon, all you need do is break off a few masts.
