King Cuts Spike. This is a 4.5 inch / 11 cm edition of my sculpture of Spike Lee as a combination of his movie characters. It's a limited edition available until one-hundred (100) 3D-prints are made.
Proceeds Go To Charity. 70% of the price covers the 3D-printed material itself. 30% of the sales of this print will be donated to Peace 4 Animals. Peace 4 Animals is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to ending abuse of all earth’s species, from rehabilitating domestic animals to outreach for protecting natural habitat in the wild.
What's Up With This? Spike Lee is really trying to Do The Right Thing. Malcom, Mars and Mookie medallions bedazzle him. His basketball is Bamboozled by a new minstrel show. Race relations and his obsession with the NBA collide at his fingertips. He's a fearless warrior despite his stature. Underestimate the Spike at your own peril.
Working the 3D Model. After I carved the wood sculpture I made a 3D scan then re-sculpted & colored it with 3D-modelling software. I enlarged, deleted or altered certain parts. Some things need to be thick to be 3D-printed. Enlarging also raises the cost of the material. So I worked to lower the cost & meet the technical spec's. Including the 3D-scan, patching, re-sculpting & coloring, it took me about 29 hours to develop this for 3D printing here.
The Wood Carving. See pictures, videos and more about my original Spike wood carving here on my website. The original 18 inch sculpture took me weeks to carve from scratch in western red & yellow cedar wood, then paint in acrylic. It was part of my "King Cuts" series of wood carvings depicting famous film directors mashed with their characters. I'm working on more 3D-print editions from this series.
